About Multi‑List Tools
How to Use Multi‑List Tools
The Multi‑List Tools page lets you work with multiple lists simultaneously. You can merge lists to obtain a union of unique items, intersect lists to find common elements, subtract one list from others, and import data from CSV files. Three views read the same lists three ways: a Venn diagram of 1 to 3 lists, a dashboard of pairwise comparisons, a global overlap histogram and a custom combination explorer, and a membership table listing every item against the lists that hold it.
Key Features
- Merge Lists: Combine all unique items from your lists (union) by removing duplicates.
- Intersect Lists: Find the common items shared across your lists.
- Subtract Lists: Find what is in one list and not in the others. Because A minus B and B minus A are different questions, the Custom Combination Explorer asks which list to subtract from before you tick the ones to take away.
- Item Membership Table:Every distinct item with a tick under each list that holds it, searchable and sortable. It is the one view that reads item to lists rather than count to items, so it answers “which lists is this in?” directly. Export writes the whole table, not just the rows on screen.
- Venn Diagram Visualization: Visualize overlaps between 1 and 3 lists. Select any count — with the mouse or the keyboard — to list the items it counts.
- CSV Import: Import CSV from the toolbar. Every column becomes one list, replacing the lists on the page; tick First row contains column headers to name the lists after the header row instead of numbering them.
- Case Sensitive Matching: Toggle case sensitivity for precise comparisons.
- List Management: Easily add new lists or remove extra lists with the provided buttons.
- Interactive Dashboard: Access advanced features like a global overlap histogram, interactive pairwise comparison matrix, and custom combination explorer to analyze your data in-depth.
- Export Options: Download visualizations as SVG or PNG files, and export detailed results as CSV.
Getting Started
Begin by entering your list items in the input area using your chosen delimiter, or by importing a CSV file from the toolbar. Union, Intersection and Symmetric Difference in the toolbar run across every list and write to the Output box; the Custom Combination Explorer runs the same three over a subset you pick. Selecting a Venn count, a matrix cell or a histogram bar lists the items behind that number, and any result can be exported as CSV.
